Voice of my Own

VOMO (A Voice of My Own) is a video empowerment project for young people in the Scottish Borders.

Scenes from VOMO film, The Sk8ing Detective

VOMO has 10 camera kits, 4 editing laptops and two projectors (the ‘Filmbank’) available for young people to make and screen films about issues in their lives. VOMO will give support to young people to achieve this.

This could be a film like ‘The Sk8ing Detective’, made by young people from Duns who wanted a skate park and wanted to show the local community their passion for skateboarding in the face of some negative stereotyping. They screened the film to people in their area, and now have public support and a site identified for their skate park.

VOMO film-maker, Jaimini Jethwa can help individuals or groups of young people to communicate their issues through film. There could also be a youth worker trained by VOMO in your area who can help you, or other young people who have set up film clubs. We can put you in touch with them.
